mountain setting 15 miles northwest of Boulder. We are a non-profit
bringing kids and families together with nature through outstanding
environmental education programming. Since 1982, Cal-Wood Education
Center has connected diverse communities to the wonders of nature
through immersive outdoor experiences. We provide bilingual family
programs, school programs, retreats, and research initiatives, with
a focus on removing barriers to nature for underrepresented
communities. This summer, Cal-Wood is providing 5 weeks of summer
camp programming for students aged 7-17. We are looking to hire a
responsible Summer Camp Nurse who is excited to work with kids
while living and working in a beautiful mountain setting! The
Summer Camp Nurse will have a unique opportunity to aid our campers
in their physical and mental well being, administer medication to
students as needed, and provide necessary care while living and
staying on our 1,200 acre campus. This role is ideal for school
nurses who have the summer off or other health professionals who
meet the qualifications. Responsibilities of the Summer Camp Nurse:
Provide kind and compassionate care to all campers Manage and
distribute camper medication, including maintaining the proper
paperwork When students present with illness or injury, provide the
applicable care onsite or make the call if a student needs to be
sent home or to a hospital for additional care Be alert to the
needs of campers and act accordingly and appropriately. Communicate
the needs of campers to the administrative staff when appropriate.
Be a good role model by demonstrating positivity, cleanliness,
punctuality, sharing, chores, sportsmanship, and table manners. Be
consistent and fair when enforcing policies and procedures.
Maintain good public relations when interacting with parents and
community members. Instruct campers on emergency procedures and
ensure procedures are followed correctly when necessary. Maintain
high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers
and staff. Support other staff in the arrival, program, and
departure of all campers. This includes leading orientation
meetings and tours, working with the kitchen staff, and other
Cal-Wood departments. Participate in debrief meetings at the end of
each week and prepare for the following week of programs. Respond
to medical emergencies onsite as needed. Live onsite 24/7 whenever
students are present. Qualities and Qualifications: Must be at
least 21 years of age. One of the following qualifications
required: a licensed physician a registered nurse a licensed
practical nurse a licensed physician's assistant a certified
nursing assistant Medication administration requirement - can be
completed after hiring at the employee's expense. Experience
working with children is strongly desired. Spanish fluency is
highly desired, but not mandatory. Employment is contingent upon
successful completion of several in-depth background checks.

24th Licensing Requirements: At each permanent camp there shall be
one or more health care providers who shall be responsible for
monitoring the overall health of the camp and creating a healthy
camp community. A health care provider may be one of the following:
a licensed physician, a registered nurse, a licensed practical
nurse, a licensed physician's assistant, a certified nursing
assistant, or a staff member who holds a current American Red Cross
Emergency Response Certificate or a current certificate as an
Emergency Medical Technician or equivalent. Any health care
provider other than a licensed physician, registered nurse, or
licensed practical nurse must also hold a current certificate
indicating completion of the State Department approved and required
medication administration course. 1. At least one health care
provider shall be at the camp twenty-four (24) hours per day that
the camp is in session. 2. If the camp health care provider is not
a physician or RN, a physician or RN currently licensed in Colorado
must specifically delegate authority to any camp health care
provider or camp staff member to administer medications. The
delegating physician or RN must be aware of the specific medical
needs of campers, be available for consultation while the camp is
in session, and accept responsibility for monitoring the
therapeutic effects of medications administered at camp. As
directed by their scope of practice, EMTs may not administer
medications in the camp setting; therefore, an EMT may not serve as
the sole camp health care provider. Respiratory therapists may
administer medication within their scope of practice. 3. All health
care providers, except physicians and RNs, must take the Department
approved medication administration course and hold a current First
Aid and CPR card.
