Job Description:
EDM International, Inc., based in Fort Collins, CO is seeking a
Part 107-certificated drone pilot to work as a full-time permanent
UAS pilot / UAS coordinator. This is a new position at EDM and the
start date is to be agreed upon following acceptance of job offer.
EDMs UAS program includes a wide diversity of Part 107 missions.
For example, missions frequently include, close proximity flying to
energized power line equipment in substations, on transmission line
rights-of-way, and in distribution service areas like neighborhoods
and businesses. Missions also frequently include using a UAS to
install equipment on suspended wires to make those wires more
visible to birds in flight, people in sailboats, or other groups at
risk of collision. Less often, missions include before-and-after
construction inspections, wildlife habitat assessments, etc. When
UAS missions are not being conducted, office-based tasks include,
but are not limited to, planning communications with the FAA, with
clients, and with local property owners. Office-based tasks also
include post-processing of UAS-derived data, and other duties as
assigned. Responsibilities Much of EDMs UAS work is in support of
the electric industry. Applicants do NOT need previous experience
in the electric industry. Applicants DO need a willingness to learn
some information about the electric industry, and applicants DO
need excellent piloting skills because we routinely fly within
inches of energized equipment. Much of EDMs UAS work is in support
of wildlife conservation. Applicants do NOT need prior experience
in wildlife or conservation work. Applicants DO need a willingness
to learn how UAS can be used in wildlife and conservation work, and
applicants DO need excellent piloting skills because we routinely
encounter wildlife during UAS missions. Much of EDMs UAS work
involves round trip travel from Fort Collins, CO to the mission
location. Travel is almost always in the range of 2 days to 2
weeks. Applicants must be willing and able to travel. Prior to
2020, travel usually involved commercial airplanes. During 2020, in
deference to Covid-19, road travel was used exclusively by EDMs
pilots. Travel in 2021 and beyond will depend on CDC
recommendations. Duties will include substantial communication and
coordination with various project managers within EDM to ensure
that goals are understood and accomplished on each mission. Duties
will also include substantial communication and coordination with
EDMs existing UAS pilots to ensure pilots are available to staff
missions, UAS appropriate to various missions are ready for the
pilots, etc. Qualifications/Education/Experience: Must have a Part
107 certificate. Must be willing and able to travel to UAS mission
locations throughout the U.S. Must have a valid state or provincial
drivers license. Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing.
Must be able to pass pre-employment background check. Must have at
least a 4-year college degree from an accredited college or
university. Degree(s) in fields related to UAS or engineering (for
the UAS aspect of the work), conservation or wildlife biology (for
applications of UAS work in natural resources), or communications
or social work (for interactions with property owners) will be
particularly relevant, but any 4-year college degree will qualify.
Work Environment: The UAS pilot / UAS coordinator is based at EDM
Internationals office in Fort Collins, CO. An office will be
provided. All tools needed to complete assigned tasks will be

EDMs clients. Travel in the range of 2 days to 2 weeks will be
required each month. Vehicles, lodging, mileage, and per diem will
be provided. UAS work is often conducted at sensitive facilities,
or on behalf of clients with safety-based zero tolerance policies.
For that reason, clients sometimes require EDM pilots to pass drug
tests or background checks prior to allowing us on project sites.
The new employee must be comfortable with annual and random
testing. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift 40 lbs. Must be
able to hike uneven terrain, including steep hillsides. Must be

of 52-week calendar year. UAS work often requires > 40
hours/week when conducting UAS missions. Other Duties: The above

other instructions, and perform any other related duties, as
