Job Summary Educator preparation plays a prominent role in alignment with UNCs position and mission to serve as the state primary institution for degree programs that prepare educators, that offers masters and doctoral programs primarily in the field of education; has the responsibility to offer graduate programs for educators statewide . A strong teacher preparation program always involves having teacher candidates connected to the reality of teaching throughout their program. Thus, getting candidates placed for field experience as part of the program requirements is an essential and integral part of any teacher preparation program. The purpose of this position is to ensure effective and efficient placement of teacher candidates in school settings throughout their programs.This Special Education Placement Coordinator position, by ensuring quality field placement through ongoing collaboration and partnership building with licensure programs across the UNC campus and with PK-12 school settings, supports the enduring statement of why UNC exists. Special Education preparation currently encompasses about 500 students at the graduate and undergraduate levels with 9 unique licensure areas (in addition to various education related non-licensure degree programs) and is housed in the School of Special Education. Multiple field placements are required for each licensure program resulting in approximately 400 placements per year in schools across Colorado, the nation and internationally. Educator preparation programs are highly regulated by the State and multiple program-specific professional agencies, including field experience requirements. In addition to the regulatory bodies for individual licensures, every public school district and private school has additional placement standards and policies. The field placement process is a complex integration of assuring quality experiences for students, meeting and exceeding educator preparation State and program specific regulations as well as compliance with partner school/district policies. The placement process entails constant changes making timely and quality coordination with other units across the campus and with partner schools/districts crucial to the units success in addressing UNCs mission as the primary institution for undergraduate and graduate degree programs for educational personnel preparation in the state of Colorado. The Special Education Placement Coordinator position provides specialized knowledge and skills to ensure the efficiency and value of educator preparation field experiences. This professionally trained, program-centered, student and faculty-oriented, and quality-minded staff member, is a visible and accessible presence to conduct the daily operation of field placement and assist with related support of special educator preparation programs functions; assist faculty and program leaders in the administration of field relations with K-12 schools; serve as liaison for field placement with the state and other accrediting bodies; and provide monitoring of student compliance with program-specific field requirements. The Special Education Placement Coordinator positions key function is to provide quality field placements for students that ensure their successful graduation and ability to obtain licensure as well as meet all educator preparation regulations. This position works collaboratively with CEBS Deans Office, Director of the School of Special Education, special education program-based faculty and education program leaders across the campus, professional advisors/coaches, Specialist for Educator Preparation Quality Assurance and School Partnerships (Ed Prep Specialist), Licensure Officer, PK-12 school partners for UNCs educator preparation programs, and other campus partners to ensure field experience quality.
