Weld County Youth Conservation Corps Service Crew Leader
This is a 1200, 900, or 450 hour term Duties and Responsibilities:
--- Invasive species and hazard tree removal as a sawyer and/or a
swamper --- Provide guidance and leadership to a crew of 8-10 corps
members --- Accurately complete daily logs, time sheets,
evaluations, and incident reports --- Participate in all projects
and lead by example --- Coordinate logistics with Project Sponsors
and WCYCC Supervisor --- Operate county vehicles safely and provide
a clean driving record --- Abide by WCYCC policies and procedures
--- Maintain a positive attitude and reflect strong service ethic
Ability To: --- Serve in unpredictable weather and harsh
environmental conditions --- Communicate effectively with fellow
corps members, crew leader, and program staff --- Motivate and
encourage young adults to serve and persevere in difficult and
physically challenging settings --- Service term may require
attendance during the evenings and weekends as necessary (Camping
for 2+ weeks) Experience: --- One year of experience working with
youth in conservation efforts preferred, but not required ---
Managed conflict in a group setting --- Leading in a team
environment and providing direct oversight --- Experience
supervising a diverse youth group Qualifications: --- MUST BE 18-30
YEARS OLD TO APPLY --- High School Diploma or equivalent --- U.S.
citizen or lawful permanent resident --- Must be able to pass
background check and possess a valid state driver's license or
identification card --- Have reliable transportation to and from
service base Physical Requirements: --- Able to lift 25+ lbs. ---
Ability to use/handle picks, sledgehammers, rakes, and shovels ---
Ability to transverse uneven terrain --- Ability to bend, stoop,
stretch, twist, or to squat to perform tasks --- Service term will
require strenuous physical engagement, personal motivation, and

Member Duties : Service term will begin with the Chainsaw Crew
serving side-by-side with a crew leader gaining crew management
experience. The Service Crew Leader will have the ability to learn
how to run a chainsaw and further our initiative for invasive tree
species control. By May 1st, Service crew leaders will split their
time with the Chainsaw Crew, while beginning to prepare for running
their own crew. Starting in June, Crew Leader will guide a group of
16*-30 year old crew members participating in trail building and
maintenance, planting and watering, noxious weed control, painting,
and community beautification. Term of service will also include
leadership development experience, technical training, and
development of personal and professional skills.
Personal/professional development provides training certificates,
career exploration, experience in a team-based environment,
effective communication, and basic service ethic development.
Program Benefits : Education award upon successful completion of
service , Training , $2,455 - $3,109/month living stipend .
