Minimum Hiring Annual Salary:
$47,341.00

Maximum Hiring Annual Salary:
$49,708.05

To attain the maximum annual salary, employee must meet all minimum qualifications plus:

  • 5 (five) years of additional applicable work experience and/or degrees higher than minimum qualification degree. Degrees higher than the minimum qualification degree can be used in combination with additional work experience.

    The stated salary amounts are not guaranteed in the event employment ends with Aims during any fiscal year.

      Job Description:

      The Trades Specialist position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of buildings across multiple campuses. This position is responsible for specific systems maintenance, and the technical requirements and knowledge in keeping college buildings functioning at a high level.

      Carpentry:
      • Install, remodel, renovate, alter, repair walls, and related applications.
      • Read, interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams and specifications.
      • Estimates materials needed to complete assigned task.
      • Orders materials to complete assigned task.

        Drywall:
        • Repair, taping, mudding, and applying applicable texturing.
        • Read, interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams and specifications.
        • Estimates materials needed to complete assigned task.
        • Orders materials to complete assigned task.

          Furniture Systems:
          • Assemble/Disassemble, modify, and repair a wide variety of furniture systems.
          • Install (Bulletin boards, Whiteboards, Smartboards, etc.).

            Masonry/Thermal Protection/Doors & Windows/Roofing Systems:
            • Repair masonry walls, and related applications.
            • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on window and roofing systems.
            • Installs, repairs, or maintains doors and associated hardware (including electronic locks).
            • Read, interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams and specifications.
            • Estimates materials needed to complete an assigned task.
            • Orders materials to complete assigned task.

              Floor Coverings:
              • Install, alter, maintain, repair and remove carpet, vinyl composition tile, cove base or sheet vinyl flooring following all applicable codes.
              • Estimates materials needed to complete assigned task.
              • Orders materials to complete assigned task.

                Other Duties as assigned:
                • Snow & Ice Removal:
                • Maintain entryways and walkways up to 20' free from snow and ice by means of specialized equipment or by hand.
                • Distribute sand, ice melt or equivalent by means of specialized equipment or by hand.
                • Inspect areas for accumulations of snow or ice and alleviate potential safety hazards.

                  Minimum Qualifications:
                  • High School Diploma or GED; plus,
                  • Five (5) years of related work experience in the structural trades appropriate to the work assignment (carpentry) or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
                  • A pre-employment post-offer physical evaluation will be required of the selected candidate.
                  • Safety Certifications for the following equipment (or ability to become certified within twelve (12) months of hire): Forklift, Skid loader, and Manlift.
                  • This position requires the use of a company vehicle and/or personal vehicle for business travel. The selected candidate must successfully pass an MVR and be insurable under Aims insurance.

                    KNOWLEDGE OF:
                    • Construction drawings, sketches, blueprints, diagrams, and specifications
                    • Safe construction practices and building maintenance in one or more of the following fields: carpentry, drywall repair, painting, minor electrical, plumbing, roofing, HVAC, door hardware, concrete, masonry, floor covering, ceiling grid, steel stud framing.
                    • Occupational hazards and safety procedures applicable to various maintenance operations and activities.
                    • Quality assurance in field to include; materials, supplies, equipment and practices used in the maintenance of building systems.
                    • Applicable codes while performing building system repairs.

                      ABILITY TO:
                      • Interpret construction drawings, sketches, blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
                      • Use necessary tools associated with the trades with proficiency.
                      • Ability to problem solve and implement a proper solution often working individually without direct supervision.
                      • Follow written and oral assignments.
                      • Interpret applicable codes (city, county, state, health, life-safety, uniform building and uniform fire codes, all trade codes such as plumbing and electrical) take corrective action when necessary.
                      • Move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis; 50-100 pounds on an occasional basis.
                      • Use computer for specific trades programs.

                        Required Licenses and/or Certifications:
                        • Safety Certifications for the following equipment (or ability to become certified within twelve (12) months of hire): Forklift, Skid loader, and Manlift.

                          Preferred Qualifications:
                          • Communicates effectively with other departments, employees, students and the public.
                          • Provides strong customer service.
                          • Industry specific credentials applicable to carpentry.
