Job Description:
Within our newest and state-of-the-art Greeley, CO manufacturing
facility, we are seeking a Plant Safety Manager on the plant's
leadership team to help grow, mentor, and support the 550 employees
that call this facility home. Will you turn your passion for people

Foods, starting compensation for this role typically ranges between
$100,000 - $125,000. This position has an annual target bonus of
15%. Safety Training and Education
Conducts new hire safety orientation training. Facilitates
compliance-based and job-specific safety training. Conducts
train-the-trainer courses for monthly safety training topics and
periodically audits and provides feedback on the departmental
delivery of the training. Creates and/or modifies safety training
curriculum so that it is site-specific for maximum impact. Supports
departmental safety meetings and pre-shift meetings by providing
safety topics for discussion. Provides safety education at plant
and departmental staff meetings. Makes safety "visible" in the
workplace through various postings, safety messages, campaigns, and
other strategies. Responsible for safety training tracking and
record retention. Partners with the Technical Training & OD
Supervisor to develop safety awareness and applicable training.
Safety Inspections
Performs various inspection (hazard recognition) techniques related
to general industry and food manufacturing to continuously improve
workplace conditions and behaviors.
Coordinates/facilitates pre-use inspection process (i.e., hoists,
ladders, fall protection, PIT). Oversees an effective correction
action process to close the loop on prioritized opportunities.
Ensures accountability for safety through tracking corrective
actions, safety work orders, and review of completed permits -
i.e., confined space, hot work, and energized electrical permits.
Develops and shares hazard recognition techniques with others to
develop a team approach for the onsite inspection process that
covers the numerous legal audits and inspections required in a
manufacturing operation. Coordinates the plant involvement and
leads the response to the annual safety review process.
Engagement in the Safety Process
Facilitates an effective safety steering committee through the
identification, development, and sharing of injury trend analysis
and key performance indicators to drive ownership with the
direct-line operations management team, their direct reports, and
all employees. Performs risk ranking activities on a continuous
basis to insure the most value-added safety initiatives are
constantly being improved upon for effectively reducing workplace
losses. Assists the management team with identifying roles and
responsibilities for safety at the various levels of the
organization and facilitates those activities that will help all
employees demonstrate their ongoing commitment to achieving an
injury-free workplace. Champions employee involvement through the
creation and support of "Employee Involvement Teams" for safety
improvement opportunities including; training, inspections,
accident investigations, ergonomics, emergency preparedness, and
safety activities/promotion teams. Leads the behavior-based safety
observation process to address at-risk behaviors and to promote and
reinforce positive attitudes and expected safe behaviors. Supports
the Operations Safety Manager's strategic safety initiatives
through the adoption and execution of annual safety initiatives,
monthly conference calls, attending annual meetings, and follow-up
on corrective action responses of internal audit findings. Supports
a frontline leadership safety training program that teaches and
engages managers, supervisors, and Team Leads their role in safety.
Leads by example the direct engagement efforts by making oneself
visible routinely on the floor and by participating in pre-shift
meetings as warranted. Supports an effective rewards and
recognition process to energize, engage, and empower employees for
continued safety process improvements. Supports the Human Resource
Manager in human resource activities as assigned. Partners with the
HR Manager to support employee relations practices necessary to
establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a
high level of employee morale.
Regulatory Compliance
Implements and maintains compliance-based safety policies and
programs to insure that the facility meets and/or exceeds federal
and state OSHA regulations. Motivates all personnel regarding
existing company rules and safety obligations and newly promulgated
rules for regulatory compliance improvement initiatives. Challenges
current or existing safety programs for continued improvement and
sharing of best practices amongst other manufacturing facilities.
Reviews proposed plant layout modifications and directs management
of change efforts to eliminate and/or control safety design
hazards. Accompanies OSHA, EPA, and state and local officials on
inspections and serves as liaison with agencies.
Completes required governmental reporting and maintains required
recordkeeping
Accident/Incident Response
Leads the incident prevention process at the facility including
root cause analysis and corrective actions for all injuries,
near-miss incidents, property, and environmental losses. Drives
loss control efforts utilizing up-to-date incident analysis data to
achieve the greatest impact for continued reduction in injuries,
property damage, and environmental losses. Generates key learning
memo's to share after hi-potential incidents for plant-wide and
corporate-wide lessons learned opportunities. Administers First-Aid
/ CPR process (as required).
PSM/RMP/Hazmat
Partners with the Engineering/Maintenance staff in managing and
strengthening the facility's Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk
Management (RMP), and Hazmat programs. Helps drive the Hazmat
program by conducting Hazmat Responder certification training,
Hazmat refresher training, and emergency response drills.
Communicates key learning's with interested parties/partners as
necessary. Partners with the Power & Utilities Dept. to ensure that
Hazmat and other emergency response equipment.
Administers the medical surveillance program for Hazmat, maintains
site-specific emergency response plan, and serves as the liaison
with external agencies including local fire department.
Workers' Compensation / Claims Management
Coordinates/attends medical visits associated with work-related
incidents and injuries. Initiates/completes associated paperwork
(i.e., first reports, medical bill submittal). Assists the HR
Manager/Supervisor in providing verbal/written correspondence with
employees, doctor offices, and third party administrator and
participates in periodic claims reviews. Works with the HR
Manager/Supervisor in coordinating and monitoring transitional duty
process for effective return-to-work results.
Safety Design Standards
Collaborates with Corporate Safety to create safety design
standards for consistent application of safe working conditions.
Partners with Technical Services Project Leads, Plant Engineers and
Maintenance to ensure safety design considerations are applied
consistently by serving as the onsite resource during
pre-construction planning, construction phase, and post
construction punch-list problem solving. Develops safety design
checklists and associated training materials and delivers to onsite
Technical Services personnel on an as needed basis. Attends owner's
meetings to ensure Leprino Safety Policies are understood and
followed.
Acts as a resource to clarify expectations with external
construction project safety leads.

Strong functional/technical skills and knowledge of state and
federal health and safety regulations including OSHA CFR 29 -1910
General Industry Standards. Strong functional/technical skills and
knowledge of OSHA CFR 29 - 1926 Construction Industry Standards.
Strong functional/technical skills and knowledge of OSHA Process
Safety Management (PSM); EPA Risk Management Program (RMP);
Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) technician and incident commander
requirements.
Able to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
simultaneously. Able to effectively delegate and get work done
through others. Capacity to demonstrate composure, display
compassion, and the knack for resolving conflict at the shop floor
level. Viewed as a subject matter expert and technical resource in
safety. Able to inspire passion for safety by delivering impactful
key learning's to drive conformance with legal requirements and to
influence safe behaviors. Action oriented and the capacity to drive
for results. Process improvement mindset. Proficient in the
Microsoft Office Suite.
We hope you also have:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in safety management,
production management, industrial technology or similar program or
equivalent experience. Three to five plus years of progressive
safety leadership experience in an industrial setting, preferably
in the food industry. Successful experience leading loss control
efforts in general industry. Hands-on experience managing and
applying construction safety standards. Familiarity with building
effective safety teams in a continuous improvement environment
preferred. Practical experience with Process Safety Management,
Hazmat Technician Level and Incident Commander training. ASP or CSP
certification preferred, but not required.
